The Brotherhood of the Electric- Crocodile Cafe, Seattle, Aug. 31, 2000

by Robin Warren

What an awesome show! What can I say? I was blown away! I had never seen Ben sing before & his presence is amazing! Maybe it has something to do with his actual physical size, but he just seems to take up the whole stage, even when he tries to "hide" behind the mike or the harmonica. He sang with ABSOLUTE conviction, like nobody was going to DARE tell him otherwise, growly, not sweet, but musical. He came onstage in a mad dash & left in much the same way. He called drummer Dan Peters (x-Mudhoney) the guy from "Molly Hatchet" & sang a song about how his life is better than our life (?) It was true psychedelic rock, but not like the 60's.....The opening band The Heads-I thought they were killer & Nebula, the headliner was a breath of fresh-air to a lot of the glamminess going around the scene. They were killer as well. Saw Ben after the show in the back at a booth talking to a group of 10 guys & I didn't want to wait in line to talk to the guy, so I left, once again, not saying hello.
